Kirstie: ‘I went back to work too soon’
|
Location, Location, Location star Kirstie Allsopp has revealed she regrets returning to work so soon after the birth of her second baby, saying she resents Angelina Jolie seemingly perfect celebrity supermums.
“It was too soon,” said the presenter, who returned to the Channel 4 property show just three months after giving birth to Oscar in August last year. “He was born when the recession was starting to bite. People were saying property shows were finished. I panicked as I thought I might be out of a job. That's one of my big regrets.”
The 36-year-old said the idea of a celeb mum who was on top of everything motherhood has to throw at her was a myth, admitting she has both a housekeeper and a nanny to help her cope with Oscar, three-year-old son Bay and her two stepsons, nine-year-old Orion and Hal, six. “I resent women in the public eye who look glam, do glamorous jobs and try to pretend they have it all when they don't,” she said. “You can't have all that without help.”
“It puts pressure on all mums. Even as a 'celebrity mum' myself, there is now a huge expectation that you'll have a natural birth, get your figure back immediately, take naturally to motherhood and continue a successful career. It's rubbish.”
